The 2024 Olympics in France: how to prepare for your visit?

The next Olympic Games will take place in France from 26th July to 11th August, 2024. The city of Paris will host the vast majority of the competitions. The city of lights was officially trusted with the organisation of the 2024 Olympics on September 13, 2017. 

This is the largest sporting event in the world, awaited by thousands of people. The organisers have been preparing for these competitions for several years in order to offer a festive and unforgettable event. 

How to attend the 2024 Olympics in France and prepare your arrival? I will give you an overview in this article! 

Where will the 2024 Olympics take place?

The next Olympic Games will take place in France, mainly in Paris. The 2024 Olympics in France will take place from 26th July to 11th August, and the Paralympics from  28th August to 8th September. 

Most of the events will take place in Paris, but other cities such as Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux and Nice will host some competitions, especially soccer. 

The capital and its suburbs will be preparing some of the iconic places to allow athletes and spectators to experience a unique moment. Iconic sites such as le Grand Palais, les Invalides, le Champ de Mars, Roland Garros stadium, le Stade de France and le Château de Versailles will transform for a unique sporting experience. 

Lille will host the handball finals. Nantes, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Lyon, Nice, Marseille will host the soccer competitions. The sailing competitions will take place in Marseille and the shooting competitions  in Châteauroux . 

How to buy a ticket for the Olympic Games in France? 

Organisers expect to sell about 10 million tickets for the 2024 Olympics in France, and 3.5 million tickets for the Paralympics. This impressive volume of tickets requires great organisation and nothing can be left to chance. Thus, the Organizing Committee has published a ticketing calendar that starts on December 1, 2022 , on the official website of the Olympic Games 2024. 

The sales will be 100% digital. Tickets will be sold individually, but there will also be day passes and packs to attend several competitions. Prices will vary depending on the tickets and packs chosen. 

From December 2022 until January 31, 2023, it will be possible to register for the draw that will allow the sale of packs to attend several competitions. The purpose of this draw? To have the chance to get your ticket on a priority basis !

In February 2023, it will be possible to buy the ticket packs and the customised packs. Priority will be given to those who have registered for the draw.

In March 2023, single tickets will be sold to those who have been selected. For the others, while supplies last, single tickets will be available for purchase until the end of 2023. 

To obtain a ticket to attend the 2024 Olympics in France, you will have to buy your ticket in 2023. After that, it will be too late! 

Where to stay during the 2024 Olympics in France? 

The 2024 Olympics in France will take place mainly in Paris. The Olympic and Paralympic village will be located in L’Ile-Saint-Denis. Depending on the events you wish to see, you will have to travel to the different Olympic sites in Paris and its suburbs, but also in the provinces in cities like Lille, Nice, Marseille and Bordeaux. 

The different competition sites in Paris and its suburbs will be completely accessible via public transport. Ile-de-France Mobilité will be in charge of setting up a large number of buses, streetcars, subways and trains so that spectators can easily get from one site to another. 

It will be possible to stay anywhere in Paris or in the Ile de France, in an Airbnb accommodation or a hotel. However, plan to book early to make sure you have accommodation. 

For competitions in the provinces, you can fly, drive or take the train from any major city. You should also plan to book your accommodation or hotel room early so that you don’t end up with nothing!
